The Necessity of Prototyping in Product Development

In the automotive industry, the wheel hub is a critical safety and performance component. Developing a physical prototype before moving to mass production is essential for several reasons: 1, Design Validation: It allows engineers to verify the aesthetic appeal and complex geometries of the wheel spokes that cannot be fully captured in 3D renders. 2, Functional Testing: Prototypes are used for assembly checks, ensuring perfect fitment with braking systems and tire beads. 3, Aerodynamic Analysis: High-fidelity models can be used in wind tunnel testing to optimize airflow and cooling efficiency for the braking system.

Material Selection

For automotive wheel hubs, we prioritize materials that mimic the mechanical properties of final production parts: 1 Aluminum 6061-T6: The most popular choice due to its excellent strength-to-weight ratio, high machinability, and resemblance to production-grade forged alloys. 2, Aluminum 7075-T6: Used for high-performance or racing prototypes where superior tensile strength and fatigue resistance are required. 3, Magnesium Alloys: Selected for specialized lightweight applications and EV (Electric Vehicle) efficiency testing.

Technical Processes & Manufacturing Steps

To achieve a "production-ready" look and feel, we follow a rigorous multi-stage process: 1, 5-Axis CNC Machining: Utilizing 5-axis milling to handle the complex undercuts and organic curves typical of modern wheel designs. 2, Precision Lathe Turning: Ensuring the inner rim and mounting surfaces are perfectly concentric. 3, Manual Sanding & Polishing: Removing tool marks to achieve the required surface roughness (Ra). 4, Surface Finishing: Options include Anodizing, Powder Coating, or PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) to simulate various OEM finishes (Chrome, Matte Black, or Brushed Metal).

Customer Feedback
